Guided by key ecclesiastical documents on the family, especially Familiaris Consortio of Pope John Paul II in 1981, the Archdiocese of Kisumu positions itself as a Church at the service of the family. We make the words of the Holy Father ours and we recognize that that marriage and the family constitute one of the most precious of human values, the Church wishes to speak and offer her help to those who are already aware of the value of marriage and the family and seek to live it faithfully, to those who are uncertain and anxious and searching for the truth, and to those who are unjustly impeded from living freely their family lives. Supporting the first, illuminating the second and assisting the others, the Church offers her services to every person who wonders about the destiny of marriage and the family.
This Department is mandated to handle all family related groups and associations. It handles various programs in the Archdiocese including the following:
- Natural Family Planning
- The Faithful House
- Abstinence and Behavior Change
It is headed by a Coordinator currently Mrs Theresa Anyango.
Through this department, a number of families have been trained and at least there are a number of Couples for Christ in a number of our parishes. As a matter of great importance, we emphasize once more that the pastoral intervention of the Archdiocese in support of the family is a matter of urgency. Every effort is being made by the Family Life Program to strengthen and develop pastoral care for the family, which we treat as a real matter of priority, in the certainty that the future of our evangelization depends largely on the domestic Church.
